Adult in breeding plumage, May 2014, Hagerman NWR, Grayson Co.
Top of head and back of neck are white, with contrasting black face, throat, breast, and belly. Under tail is white.
Back and wings are white speckled with black, with a few brown/gold accents. They have a distinctive black armpit in flight in all plumages.
Wingtip and tail are about the same length.
Larger head, bigger bill, and bigger body than similar American Golden-Plover.
