This record is the first documented record within the parameters of North-central Texas since the TBRC started reviewing rare birds in the 1970s. There are three observations from this region of Texas, all prior to 1960. It is only the 6th accepted state record.

In The Birds of North Central Texas, Warren Pulich sites three other sightings for North-central Texas, although one of them cannot be substantiated to county.

This bird of confusing origin is an uncatalogued mounted specimen from 1934, now at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, which Pulich believes was from Dallas County.
Other observations are a mounted specimen which is listed from Archer County in 1955, and a specimen from Grayson County near Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge in 1957. At least three other records from the study area have been discounted.
