Red-throated Loon

Red-throated Loon - Though rare, Red-throated Loons have appeared annually in North-Central Texas in recent years, particularly on the region's larger reservoirs such as Lake Texoma and Lake Tawakoni. They sometimes over-winter among the Common Loons. They are most common in the winter months, though there are records from the entire window of October through March. This individual was at Lake Tawakoni in March 1998. See the map of other Red-throated Loon observations in the study area.
