North-central Texas Master Birder Program

Sponsored by Audubon Dallas

The North-central Texas Master Birder Program is a "for service" initiative designed to improve the skills of birders in ornithology and in-the-field leadership. At the completion of this 10-month course, graduates will be expected to volunteer a specific number of hours towards ornithology-related subjects.

The course itself revolves around both field trip and class discussion laid out in a 10-month calendar. Generally, field trips and classes involve participants meeting 2-3 times a month with field trips organized on weekends. Field trips are usually single-day events within one-hour driving distances from the DFW area. Topics will include birding by ear, birding by habitat, bird status and distribution, area ecosystems, documentation, birding etiquette, bird topology, birding resources, and bird migration.
