Area Map as It Pertains to the Checklist

The following zones define east, west, far east, and far west as they relate to the bird checklist. When the words "north' and "south" are used, they would apply to a more basic top half and bottom half of the geographic area. The north-south compass points are used much less frequently in this checklist than east-west designations.

Brown = Far west Yellow = West Green = East Blue = Far east

Many of the typical eastern birds will sometimes show up sporadically in the western counties. Birds like Blue Jays and Carolina Wrens can be found around streams and rivers as they follow riparian habitat to the west. Less commonly, western birds may stray occasionally into the eastern grasslands - a habitat that is disappearing in the eastern counties.
